Children's Vision

We advise that children have their first test at around 3 years old. A sight test won't hurt your child, and they do not have to be able to read to have their eyes tested. Having a sight test at a young age is important, as the earlier any problems are picked up the sooner they can be treated and the better the outcome. For example, 2-3% of children have a lazy eye. Treatment for a lazy eye is most effective before the age of 7, and if the child is not treated before the age of 7 or 8 their vision may be permanently affected.

Don't expect your child to tell you if there is a problem. A child with a vision problem will not know that what they see is not normal!
